No. 2 Seed Women’s Soccer Faces No. 7 Seed WVU in NCAA Second Round

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 2 seed Nittany Lions will host No. 7 seed West Virginia in the second round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 18 at Jeffrey Field.
 
This will be the second time this season the two regional foes face one another after the Nittany Lions shut out the Mountaineers 2-0 on Jeffrey Field earlier this season.
 
The winner of the match will face the winner of Xavier and No. 3 seed Virginia on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m.

TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets are the following prices: 
Adults: $8 
PSU/WVU/UVA/XU Students: $5
Youth: $5 
Groups of 20+: $3

The first 50 PSU students who arrive to the ticket booth on University Drive will receive a free ticket to Friday's matches. After the 50 tickets are gone, admission will be $5 cash only at Jeffrey Field.

The day of the match at Jeffrey Field, fans will need to use cash to purchase tickets. Credit cards will NOT be accepted
 
PARKING INFORMATION

UPDATE: On Friday, Nov. 18, due to women's basketball and men's hockey events, the parking lots will begin a $10 cash only entry price at 5 p.m.
 
Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access. 
  
For women's soccer matches, fans are asked to park in the Jordan East, Stadium West or Porter North lots. Fans without a permit are encouraged to prepay for event parking at a discounted rate of $5.50 through ParkMobile - https://psu.parkmobile.io/. Prepayment is available through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. Event day parking will be $10 per vehicle and can be purchased on the ParkMobile app. The East Deck is also available for $1 per hour.

PENN STATE BREAKDOWN

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State, No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, earned a first-round victory in a matchup vs. Quinnipiac.
  • Four different Nittany Lions scored goals, and senior+ Penelope Hocking assisted on two of them. 
  • Senior Payton Linnehan made a game-high five shots and scored what would be the game-winner in the 50th minute after Quinnipiac tied the match at 1-1 in the 46th.
  • Penn State's four goals are the second-most they have posted since the Nittany Lions beat Illinois 5-0 on Sept. 25 at Jeffrey Field.
  • The Nittany Lions did well to shutdown junior Rebecca Cooke, who came into the match leading the nation with 22 goals. Cooke made just one shot, and for the second time this season, she did not finish the match with a goal or assist.

PENN STATE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

  • The Nittany Lions are the No. 2 seed in the Los Angeles Regional and will welcome West Virginia to Jeffrey Field at 4:30 p.m. (ET) this Friday (Nov. 18) for a second-round matchup. 
  • With a win, the Nittany Lions would remain home for a third-round contest against either Xavier or No. 3 seed Virginia.
  • Penn State has been to the NCAA Tournament 28 consecutive times.
  • PSU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament Third Round five times in a row and in seven of the last eight seasons.
  • This is the Nittany Lions 28th straight year in the NCAA Tournament dating back to 1995.

  • West Virginia has appeared in 22 NCAA Tournaments all time, with 22 appearances in the last 23 seasons.
  • The Mountaineers are 24-19-5 all-time in their 48 tournament appearances.
  • West Virginia enters Jeffery Field for the second time this year, this time as the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament
  • WVU ended the regular season with a record of 7-4-7, and 4-1-4 in Big 12 play before going on to earn Championship honors in the Big 12 Tournament.

PENN STATE AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA

  • This match will be the 22nd overall between WVU and PSU.
  • Penn State is 11-7-3 all-time vs West Virginia dating back to 2003.
