HENDERSON, NV. - The No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team fell 5-1 to No. 3/3 Minnesota on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minnesota scored four goals in the opening frame coming off the sticks of Madison Kaiser with 14:26 remaining in the period.
- The Golden Gophers added another goal three minutes later with 11:42 left off the stick of Taylor Heise to put Minnesota ahead 2-0.
- With nine minutes remaining in the frame, Peyton Hemp found the back of the net to add to the Golden Gophers lead with the score at 3-0.
- The final goal of the period came from Grace Zumwinkle with 4:01 remaining in the period to give Minnesota a 4-0 lead.
- The Nittany Lions were able to get on the scoreboard in the second period as senior Courtney Correia tallied her eighth goal of the season to narrow the Minnesota lead to 4-1.
- With 9:08 remaining in the third the Golden Gophers responded with a goal by Ella Huber to take a 5-1 lead.
GOALTENDERS
- Junior Josie Bothun stopped 30 shots on 35 attempted and dropped to 9-8-1 on the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Courtney Correia scored her first goal in seven games.
- Eleri MacKay tallied her 11th assist of the season.
- Penn State is now 2-7-1 against ranked opponetts this season.
