Penn State Fencing Team Signs Three Top Recruits

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lion fencing teams, under the guidance of interim head coach Adam Kaszubowski, have signed two top recruits as part of Penn State's 2022-23 recruiting class. Kaszubowski welcomes California-native Spencer Burke, Hong Kong's Cheng Tit Nam and Texas' Samuel Imrek into this year's recruiting class. Two will compete in men's foil and one in men's epee.

Spencer Burke has been fencing for over a decade and will come to Penn State next fall from San Diego, Calif., and West Hills High School. He has earned seven national medals as well as international hardware fencing for the Elite International Fencers Club. Burke recently earned a medal at the 2022 Cadet Pan American Games and is a senior on this year's West Hills High School varsity basketball team. A youth fencing coach in his free time, Burke is considering an engineering major at Penn State.

Cheng Tit Nam has also been fencing for over a decade as a native of Hong Kong. He currently represents the Honk Kong junior and senior national teams. Cheng recently won three gold medals and one bronze during the 2022 Junior and Cade Asian Fencing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He is the reigning 2022 Cade World Champion from the 2022 Junior and Cade World Fencing Championships in Dubai.

Samuel Imrek will head to Penn State from Missouri City, Texas, where he fenced for the Alliance Fencing Academy in Houston. Imrek is the reigning Cadet World Champion in men's epee. He dominated the field at the Junior Olympics last February, hauling three gold medals back to Texas.

The Nittany Lion men's and women's fencing teams will visit Sacred Heart this weekend for a dual series with host Sacred Heart, NYU, Harvard, Princeton, Vassar and NJIT.
