UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Late scoring by Mercyhurst led to a 3-1 defeat for No. 11/11 Penn State on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, Mercyhurst got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Sydney Pedersen 12:33 into the frame to put the Lakers ahead 1-0.
- The Nittany Lions came back on the five-on-three power-play as Kiara Zanon slipped a goal past the netminder to even the score at 1-1.
- In the third period, the Lakers took the lead again off a goal by Thea Johansson with 8:21 remaining to give Mercyhurst the 2-1 edge.
- A last-minute empty-net goal by the Lakers secured the 3-1 victory for Mercyhurst.
GOALTENDERS
- Josie Bothun made 20 saves on 23 shots attempted.
STATS AND NOTES
- The Nittany Lions tallied a season-high 23 blocked shots.
- Kiara Zanon has now scored a point in three straight games.
- Penn State drops to 8-5-1 on the season and 3-1-0 in CHA play.
