UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team tallied a single game record 11 goals as they defeated Syracuse 11-3 on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivia Wallin started the scoring Penn State with a goal off feeds by Eleri MacKay and Tessa Janecke with 18:33 remaining in the first period to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
- Less than a minute later with 17:42 remaining, Kiara Zanon added onto the lead with a goal to put the Nittany Lions ahead 2-0.
- Syracuse narrowed the lead with 13:07 remaining off a goal by Madison Primeau to cut the Penn State lead to 2-1.
- The Nittany Lions closed the first period with a pair of goals from Julie Gough and Izzy Heminger to put the Nittany Lions ahead 4-1.
- Syracuse started the second period with a pair of goals by Lauren Bellefontaine and Mae Batherson to cut the Penn State lead to 4-3 with 15:59 remaining in the period.
- The Nittany Lions would score seven unanswered goals following the Syracuse goal with a pair coming by Eleri MacKay and Zanon to secure the 11-3 victory.
GOALTENDING
- Goalie Josie Bothun stopped 15 shots on 18 attempted to capture her 12th win of the season.
