UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Select Penn State Fencers ventured to Salt Lake City, Utah for the December North American Cup (NAC) as part of a series of Olympic qualifying events. The event lasted all weekend, Dec. 9-12, at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Devin Tafoya took home a bronze medal by topping nearly 300 fencers competing in Division 1 men's epee. Freshman Vasil Ivakimov also competed alongside Tafoya and tied for 44th place.
Ola Strzalkowski finished in 27th place in women's sabre, with Neil Lilov at 75th place in Division I and 12th place in junior men's sabre.
For Penn State men's foil, Donavyn Martinez finished in 61st place in Division I and 44th in the junior division.
In the new year, some more Nittany Lion fencers will be attending the next of the Olympic qualifying events in Louisville, KY from Jan. 6-9 at the January NAC.
