UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team returned to College Hockey America play in impressive fashion with a 4-0 shutout victory over Syracuse on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nittany Lions jumped out on the scoreboard first off a goal in front of the net by Kiara Zanon with 0:59 remaining in the first period.
- Penn State added to their lead in the second period as Izzy Heminger tallied her second goal of the season off a Zanon pass with 3:42 remaining to put Penn State ahead 2-0.
- Just 20 seconds later, Alyssa Machado fired her fifth goal of the year from Zanon and Heminger to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-0.
- Tessa Janecke sealed the game with 4:32 remaining in the third period off a breakaway goal to secure the 4-0 victory.
GOALTENDING
- Goalie Josie Bothun registered her fourth shutout of the year recording 18 saves on the day.
GAME NOTES AND STATS
- Kiara Zanon tallied her third three-point game of the season.
- Tessa Janecke recorded her 12th goal of the season which leads the CHA.
- Izzy Heminger recorded her second multi-point game of the year.
- The Nittany Lions outshot Syracuse 39-18.
