UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track & field team will put on its annual intrasquad scrimmage with competition held on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions host their first home run-through before full competition begins in 2023. The competition is open to the public and will be held in Holuba Hall and Penn State's Multisport Facility and Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
FRIDAY EVENTS: M/W Javelin Throw, M/W Discus Throw
SATURDAY FIELD EVENTS: M/W Shot Put, M/W Long Jump, M/W Pole Vault, M/W Weight Throw, M/W Triple Jump, M/W High Jump
SATURDAY TRACK EVENTS: M/W 60m Hurdles, M/W 60m Dash, M/W 600m Run, M 500m Dash, M/W 300m Dash, M/W 1,200m Run, M/W 3,000m Run, M/W 4x400m Relay
Penn State sent a select few members of its women's squad to compete at the Bison Opener on Dec. 2-3, so this meet serves as an initial trial run for the rest of the team. Five Nittany Lions earned event victories at Bucknell last Saturday, with Mallory Kauffman highlighting the performance as she was honored as the Big Ten Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the week for her 56-04.00 (17.17m) shot put effort that paced the NCAA on opening weekend.
Tyler Merkley, the NCAA Outdoor runner-up in the hammer throw, and Penn State's pole vault record holder Luke Knipe, are set to go this weekend on the men's side. Reigning Big Ten Indoor Freshman of the Year and Penn State program record holder in the indoor 800m, Allison Johnson, is primed to compete on Saturday as well. Additionally, the Nittany Lion newcomers will get their first taste of home competition before the team hosts four indoor meets in 2023.
