Nittany Lions to Compete in 2022 Shriners Children’s Hospital Charleston Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – ESPN Events announced Tuesday that the Penn State men's basketball team will be one of eight participating teams in the 2022 Shriners Children's Hospital Charleston Classic from Nov. 17-20 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. during the 2022-23 season.
 
The eight-team field includes College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, Old Dominion, Penn State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The annual college men's basketball tournament will be played Nov. 17, 18 and 20.
 
The strong tournament field includes Colorado State (24-4) and Davidson (25-5), teams that both finished their 2021-22 regular seasons with 20-plus wins and are projected to make the upcoming NCAA Tournament field. Virginia Tech also remains in contention for the NCAAs and will return to Charleston this fall after winning the 2018 Classic. Furman advanced to the 2022 SoCon Championship and is currently 22-12 on the season. South Carolina is 18-12 heading into this week's SEC Tournament.
 
Penn State last met Virginia Tech in 2020, but hasn't faced any other member of the eight-team field since 2010.
 
Owned and operated by ESPN Events, the Shriners Children's Hospital Classic is in its 14th year. Past Classic champions include St. Bonaventure (2021), Florida (2019), Villanova (2016), Virginia (2015) and Miami (2014).
 
Tournament brackets and television network designations will be released this summer. Tickets will be available for purchase following the announcement of the complete tournament schedule.
