Women's Hockey Sweeps CHA Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass.- The Penn State women's ice hockey team swept the College Hockey America weekly awards on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions captured Forward of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Junior Kiara Zanon earned the Forward of the Week nod as she tallied three goals and one assist against LIU this past week. In game one of the series, she tacked on two goals alongside one assist for a three-point night aiding in the Nittany Lions 4-3 victory.  One of the goals in the series was shorthanded, and one was on the power-play. Zanon currently leads the Nittany Lions with 30 points off 14 goals and 16 assists. This is Zanon's second CHA weekly award honor of the year.
 
Senior Izzy Heminger secured Defensive Player of the Week honors as she had a four-point weekend all coming off assists. She registered two in both games of the LIU series alongside one blocked shot. Heminger leads all Nittany Lion defensemen in assists with 16 on the year. This is Heminger's third weekly award.
 
Junior Josie Bothun was named Goaltender of the Week for her victories against LIU this week. She tallied a 2.02 GAA and recorded 36 saves on 40 shots attempted. The Wyoming, Minn. native registered a .900 save percentage in her two victories. On the season, Bothun has a 2.04 GAA alongside a save percentage of .918 and a 14-8-1 record. This is her sixth weekly award nod.
 
Tessa Janecke picked up her fourth CHA Rookie of the Week award as she tallied two goals with three assists for five points in the series sweep of LIU this past week. She nailed the game winner in game one of the series in the closing minutes of the third period to secure the 4-3 victory. On the year, Janecke sits second on the team in points with 27 coming off 14 goals and 13 assists.
 
The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, January 13 when they host RIT at Pegula Ice Arena. Puck-drop is set for 6 p.m.
