No. 12/11 Women's Hockey Welcomes RIT for Alumni Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 12/11 Penn State women's ice hockey team returns to College Hockey America play this week as they host RIT starting on Friday, January 13 at 6 p.m.

HISTORY

  • This will be the 50th meeting between the two teams as the Nittany Lions lead the series 28-16-5 as Penn State took the last game of series 2-0 on Feb. 19, 2022.

SCOUTING THE ORANGE

  • Leading the way for the Tigers is Kylie Aquaro with one goal and eight assists.
  • RIT enters the series with a 2-19-0 overall record and 0-6-0 record in the CHA.
  • The Tigers are coming off a pair of losses against St. Thomas on Jan. 6-7 in which they fell 5-1 and 3-0.
  • RIT has been off to a slow start this season winning only a pair of games while tallying 19 losses. The two wins came way back on October 7-8 when they swept Saint Michael's 8-0 and 9-0. Since then, they have gone 0-15.   
  • In net for the Tigers stands Sarah Coe who has played 17 games this season and has a record of 1-14-0 and GAA of 3.28. 

BOTHUN BREAKS HISTORY

  • Junior goalie Josie Bothun played in her 76th career game in the Nittany Lions 4-3 victory on Friday against LIU.
  • Bothun surpassed Hannah Ehresmann as the program leader in goaltender games played.
  • On the season, Bothun has captured 14 wins with a GAA of 2.04 and save percentage of .918.
  • She was recently named to the HCA Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year "Watch List".

 
CONSISTANT SCORING

  • Following the Nittany Lions sweep of LIU, Penn State moved to fifth in the nation in goals scored.
  • On the year, Penn State has found the back of the net 78 times.
  • The Nittany Lions have scored at least four goals in half of their games this season.

 
JANECKE WINS THE FACEOFF

  • Freshman Tessa Janecke currently sits third in the nation in faceoff wins.
  • The Orangeville, Ill. native has won 268 faceoffs this season in 434 attempts which puts her at a 61.7%-win percentage.
  • On the year, she sits second on the team in points with 27 and has 14 goals with 13 assists.

 
WIN STREAKING

  • The Nittany Lions currently are on a five-game win streak including a 4-0 record in the month of December.
  • Penn State has won seven of their last ten games and have tallied a total of 15 wins this season.

 
JANECKE NAMED HCA NATIONAL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH

  • Forward Tessa Janecke was named the Hockey Commissioner's Association (HCA) women's hockey National Rookie of the Month for December as announced Wednesday afternoon. 
  • Janecke becomes the third Nittany Lion ever to win a national player of the month award after Kiara Zanon and Josie Bothun each received an honor in 2020 and 2021. 
  • The Orangeville, Ill. native tallied three goals with six assists for nine points during the month of December. She nailed the game winner alongside one power-play goal.
  • Janecke has gathered four CHA Rookie of the Week honors as well as two CHA Rookie of the Month nods (Sept. and Dec.).
  • On the year, Janecke sits second on the team in points with 27 coming off 14 goals and 13 assists.
  • Kiara Zanon was a runner up for national forward of the month as she tallied 7 goals with three assists for 10 points in four games in December.

  • ParkMobile prepayment availability ends at 11:59 p.m. the night before each event. Events will not be selectable on the site after that time, and payment must then be made on site upon arrival to event parking staff (cash only).
