Zanon Scores 100th Point in No. 11/12 Women’s Hockey 4-2 Win Over RIT

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Junior Kiara Zanon captured her 100th career point in No. 12/11 Penn State women's ice hockey's 4-2 victory over RIT on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State tallied three goals in the opening period as Zanon started the scoring off a short-handed goal with 16:42 remaining in the period to secure her 100th career point and to put the Nittany Lions ahead 1-0.
  • Less than a minute later, Zanon again found the back of the net while short-handed with 15:56 remaining to put Penn State up 2-0.
  • With 8:47 remaining in the period, Courtney Correia fired her ninth goal of the year off feeds from Lyndie Lobdell and Olivia Wallin to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-0.
  • In the third period, Olivia Wallin scored her eighth goal of the year off an assist by Correia to put the Nittany Lions head 4-0 with 13:48 remaining the game.
  • RIT scored their first goal of the game off a goal by Lindsay Maloney to narrow the score to 4-1.
  • The Tigers cut the Nittany Lion lead to two with 4:57 remaining off a goal by Jordyn Bear to result in the 4-2 Penn State victory.

 
GOALTENDING

  • Goalie Josie Bothun stopped 14 shots on 16 shots attempted to capture her 15th win of the season.

 
GAME NOTES AND STATS

  • With Zanon's 100th point she becomes the fourth Nittany Lion in program history to score 100 career points. She also becomes the fastest Nittany Lion in program history to hit that mark.
  • Zanon tallied her ninth multi-point game of the season.
  • Correia scored her first goal since Nov. 25 against Minnesota.
  • Penn State moved to 16-8-1 overall and 6-1-0 in CHA play.
  • Three Nittany Lions each tallied a multi-point game (Wallin 1g, 1a), (Correia 1g, 1a) (Zanon 2g).
  • Penn State's win streak increased to six games.
  • Zanon's multiple short-handed goals was the first time in program history the Nittany Lions have scored more than one short-handed goal in a game.
