UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State redshirt freshman middle blocker Owen Rose was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He earned the award for his performance in the fourth-ranked Nittany Lions 3-0 wins over Daemen and Merrimack in non-conference men's volleyball action this past weekend at Rec Hall.
Rose finished with 12 blocks (2.00/set) in the two sweeps. He opened the weekend with an impressive performance in the win over Daemen, totaling a career-high nine blocks. He then added three more in the win over Merrimack the following night to help Penn State improve to 4-0 on the season.
Rose has been dominant at the net this season, averaging 1.86 blocks/set. He has also been strong on the attack, hitting .486 while averaging 1.50 kills/set.
Penn State is off to a 4-0 start for the second-straight season. The Lions have two tough opponents upcoming as they travel to Austin, Texas for the First Point Collegiate Challenge. There they will play No. 5 Pepperdine on Friday at 4 p.m. ET, and No. 8 Stanford on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
