Women's Lacrosse Names 2023 Captains

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's lacrosse team has named senior Rachel Spilker, senior Regan Nealon and junior Kristin O'Neill as captains for the 2023 season.

Head coach Missy Doherty says, "Our captains are a great representation of all the qualities you look for in a leader.  They are selfless, hard-working, competitive, and motivate their teammates through their own actions.  I'm proud to have them lead our program in 2023."

Entering her senior year, Spilker will be a captain for the second consecutive season. In 2022, she started in all 15 games recording 15 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. The senior has been an instrumental voice on and off the field in her three seasons at Penn State.

Nealon also enters her senior season in 2023. She ended the last season having appeared in all 15 games, recording three goals, eight assists and eight ground balls. Nealon earned a career high three points against Saint Joseph's last year with one goal and two assists.

The youngest of the trio, O'Neill led the team with 51 points, 39 goals and 22 caused turnovers in the 2022 season. Her efforts garnered her first team All-Big Ten, first team All-Region and Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention. O'Neill was also selected to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List at the beginning of the campaign. The junior from Odenton, Md. immediately made an impact as a Nittany Lion earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2021.
