UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The No. 12/11 ranked Penn State women's ice hockey team captured a program record 19th win on Friday night as they defeated Lindenwood 5-1 in game one of the two-game set.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 10:58 remaining in the opening period, Eleri MacKay fired the opening goal of the game while on the power-play to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.
- Less than three minutes later, Olivia Wallin found the back of the net off a feed from Lexi Bedier to put the Nittany Lions ahead 2-0 after the first frame.
- Julie Gough tallied the lone goal of the second period with 2:31 remaining off assists by Mallory Uihlein and MacKay to pull Penn State ahead 3-0.
- Penn State fired two more goals in the third period first from MacKay on the power-play for her second of the night with 15:48 remaining. Katelyn Roberts put the icing on the cake 37 seconds later off a pair of assists by Karley Garcia and Maddy Christian to put Penn State ahead 5-0.
- Lindenwood found the back of the net one time with 3:05 left off a goal by Morgan Neitzke to result in the 5-1 Penn State victory.
GOALTENDING
- Goalie Josie Bothun made 29 saves on 30 shots to capture her 18th victory of the season.
GAME NOTES AND STATS
- Eleri MacKay tallied her second multi-goal game of the season.
- Courtney Correia and Rene Gangarosa each tallied a pair of assists.
- The Nittany Lions captured their 19th victory of the season which is the most in a single season in program history.
- 10 Nittany Lions contributed points.
