Men’s Golf Tied for Sixth On Weather-Shortened Day One at Gators Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Penn State men's golf team is tied for sixth at the Florida Gators Invitational following a lightning-shortened opening day at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
 
All teams completed the first round and made it through the opening 12 holes of the second round before the teams were called in due to lightning in the area. Round two will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. and the third and final round will immediately follow. The Nittany Lions carded a 2-under, 278, in the opening round and currently sit at 8-over through three-quarters of the second round.
 
Sophomore Jake Griffin is tied for 11th to lead the Nittany Lions. Griffin fired a stellar 5-under, 65, in the first round. His 65 is tied for the fourth-lowest 18-hole score in program history. Griffin currently sits 3-over through the first 12 holes of the second round.
 
Senior Patrick Sheehan is also in the top 20, currently sitting tied for 19th. Sheehan shot a 2-under, 68, in the morning round and sits at 2-over through 12 holes of the second round.
 
Junior James Allen is tied for 30th following a 1-over, 71, in the opening round and a 1-over through 12 holes of the second round. Senior Jimmy Meyers is tied for 54th after shooting a 4-over, 74, in the morning and a 2-over through 12 holes in the afternoon. Sophomore Morgan Lofland is in 74th place. Lofland shot a 5-over, 75, in the morning and sits at 8-over through 15 holes of the second round.
 
The Gators Invitational concludes Sunday in Gainesville beginning with the resumption of round two at 9 a.m. Live scoring will continue to be available via GolfStat.
