No. 10/9 Women's Hockey Concludes Regular Season at RIT

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -  The No. 10/9 rankedPenn State women's ice hockey team concludes the 2022-23 regular season on the road at RIT. The series begins Friday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

HISTORY

  • This will be the 52nd meeting between the two teams as the Nittany Lions lead the series 29-16-6.
  • Penn State and RIT tied the last matchup 2-2 on January 14, 2023.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • RIT enters the series with a 4-24-2 overall record and 1-11-2 CHA record.
  • The Tigers were eliminated from making the CHA playoffs after a pair of losses to Lindenwood last week. 
  • Leading the Tigers on offense are Amy Dobson and Lindsay Maloney who each tally six goals and seven assists for 13 points. 
  • In between the pipes stands Sarah Coe who registers a GAA of 2.99 and save percentage of .914 with a record of 3-19-2. 

JANECKE THE FRESHMAN PHENOM

  • Freshman forward Tessa Janecke is on the verge of becoming the all-time freshman leader in goals, assists and points.
  • The Orangeville, Ill. currently stands at 18 goals and 18 assists with 36 points.
  • She is one goal away from becoming the freshman leader in goals and she is two assists away from becoming the freshman head of assists.
  • Janecke already passed Shannon Yoxheimer in points by a freshman as she had 31. 

REGULAR SEASON...CLINCHED

  • Following the Nittany Lions sweep of Syracuse last week, Penn State clinched its second ever CHA Regular Season title.
  • The Nittany Lions also clinched home ice for the CHA Tournament which will be hosted on February 24-26 for the semifinals. 

TOP OF THE NATION

  • Junior Kiara Zanon tallied two goals against Syracuse.
  • She notched her 22nd and 23rd goals of the season which place her second in the nation in goals scored.
  • She also sits in sixth place in the nation in total points. 

9's ALL AROUND

  • Penn State was recently ranked the ninth team in the nation according to the USA Today/USA Hockey poll on Tuesday.
  • The Nittany Lions were also ranked ninth in the pairwise rankings which aids in determining seeding and teams who make the NCAA Tournament.
