ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The No. 10/9 Penn State women's ice hockey team concluded the 2022-23 regular season on a high note as they defeated RIT 3-1 on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 11:31 into the opening period Lexi Bedier found the narrow gap to slip the puck past the goalie to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
- In the second period, Izzy Heminger scored the Nittany Lions second goal of the game off feeds from Leah Stecker and Tessa Janecke to put Penn State ahead 2-0, 12:02 into the frame.
- RIT answered on the power-play off a goal by Jessie Burks 5:15 into the third period to narrow the Penn State lead to 2-1.
- Kiara Zanon had the final word scoring an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the game to put Penn State over the top with the 3-1 victory.
GOALTENDING
- Josie Bothun picked up her 23rd win of the season stopping 16 shots and allowing just one goal.
GAME NOTES AND STATS
- Penn State closes the regular season with a record of 24-8-2 and a CHA record of 14-1-1.
- Izzy Heminger tallied two points with a goal and assist.
- Tessa Janecke had a solid day in the faceoff circle winning 14-19 on the day.
