UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The 10th-ranked Penn State women's ice hockey team opened the 2023 CHA semifinals with a 4-1 victory to take game one over Lindenwood on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, Julie Gough scored the opening goal of the game with 13:52 remaining in the second period off an assist by Tessa Janecke to put the Nittany Lions ahead 1-0.
- Olivia Wallin tacked on the games second goal with 12:21 remaining in the frame off a feed by Courtney Correia to put the Nittany Lions ahead 2-0.
- Mya Vaslet scored the last goal of the period off assists by Eleri MacKay and Leah Stecker to put the Nittany Lions up 3-0 with 10:40 remaining in the second period.
- Lindenwood closed the period on a goal with 2:06 remaining in the period off the stick of Olivia Grabianowski to send the game into the final frame with Penn State ahead 3-1.
- Eleri MacKay sealed the game for the Nittany Lions as she scored off an assist by Izzy Heminger with 18:55 remaining in the game to take game one of the semifinals by a score of 4-1.
GOALTENDING
- Goalie Josie Bothun captured her 24th win of the season stopping 18 shots on 19 attempted.
GAME NOTES AND STATS
- Courtney Correia tacked on her 97th career point with an assist.
- Eleri MacKay led the way with one goal and one assist.
- Eight Nittany Lions at least tallied one point in the game.
- Penn State outshot Lindenwood 46-19 for the day, including 22-7 in the third period.
