SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The 10th-ranked Penn State women's ice hockey team completed the two-game sweep of Syracuse with a 4-1 victory on Saturday. With the win, the Nittany Lions clinched the College Hockey America Regular Season title.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two scoreless periods, Mallory Uihlein scored the opening goal of the game 1:42 into the third frame off feeds from Rene Gangarosa and Courtney Correia to put the Nittan Lions ahead 1-0.
- Five minutes later, Tessa Janecke found the opening net 6:23 into the period to put Penn State ahead 2-0.
- Eleri MacKay added onto the Penn State lead 8:34 into the frame with a goal off a feed from Janecke to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-0.
- Kiara Zanon sealed the game with an empty-net goal 15:48 into the period to give Penn State a 4-0 lead.
- Syracuse did score one goal in the closing minutes from Mae Batherson to make the final score 4-1 in favor of Penn State.
GOALTENDING
- Josie Bothun picked up her 21st victory of the season making 18 saves on 19 shots attempted.
