ROSEMONT, Ill.- Junior captain Matt Cormier is named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, marking his third of the season. Cormier ranks first nationally on floor, second on vault and fifth on high bar.
The junior all-arounder had another solid performance at Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 4). He earned an event title on high bar, his first of the season, with a 13.900. He also took second on floor with a 14.050, fourth on rings with a 13.750 and second on vault with his 14.600. He notched stick bonuses on rings and vault.
Cormier was the only all-around competitor at the meet but managed to nearly meet his career high with a score of 81.700.
The captain will also compete at the Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky with the top gymnasts in the country, later this month (Feb. 24-26).
