HOUSTON – Penn State men's basketball graduate student Andrew Funk has been selected to the TaxAct Men's 3-Point Championship roster for the 34th-annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston on Thursday, March 30. Funk is one of eight players selected for the event that will air live on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Funk proved to be the most lethal 3-point shooter in the Big Ten this season, leading the conference and ranking top 25 in the nation in both 3FG% (41.2%) and 3-pointers made per game (3.03). Funk's 112 triples this season were the second-most in a single season in school history. The Warrington, Pa. native finished the season averaging 12.5 points per game while tallying 25 double-digit scoring games and eight 20-point performances. His field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage were both career highs this season. Funk owns career marks of 1,693 points and 302 3-pointers throughout his collegiate career.
The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites the nation's elite men's and women's college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the TaxAct Men's 3-Point Championship, the Celsius Women's 3-Point Championship and the Applebee's Team Shootout. The winners of the men's and women's 3-Point competitions will then compete in the Rocket Mortgage Battle of the Champions.
For nearly 35 years, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Denzel Valentine, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Tiffany Hayes and Ariel Atkins.
A complete roster of participants in the 2023 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will be released in the days leading up to the event.
