No. 9/10 Men's Lacrosse Begins Big Ten Play at No. 2 Maryland, Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The ninth-ranked Penn State men's lacrosse team hits the road to begin Big Ten play at the University of Maryland on Saturday, March 25 at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Maryland currently leads the series 43-3 as this will be the 47th meeting between both teams.
  • The last time the Nittany Lions defeated Maryland came on March 31, 2019 when they won 13-10.

SCOUTING MARYLAND

  • Maryland enters the match with a 5-2 overall record as they recently defeated number one Virginia 14-13 in overtime on March 18.
  • Leading the way on the offensive front for the Terrapins is Daniel Maltz who leads the team in points with 22 off 15 goals and seven assists.
  • In net stands Brian Ruppel who has played and started in four games this season. He currently tallies a save percentage of .570 and a GAA of 9.68.

WHO'S ON THE ASSIST?

  • In five of the seven games played this season, the Nittany Lions as a team have recorded at least eight assists in the game.
  • The teams currently leader in assists is TJ Malone who has 14 on the year. He's recorded an assist in five of the seven games he's played this season as well.
  • Jack Traynor follows in second in assists with 11 on the year. He's tallied an assist in six of the seven games this year.
  • On the year, the team has complied a total of 60 assists. 

IT'S LIKE THEY'RE RELATED

  • Graduate student Jack Traynor and sophomore Matt Traynor each tallied at least one goal in Saturday's 12-11 loss to Marquette last week.
  • They were just one of eight sets of brothers playing division one lacrosse who each scored a goal last weekend.They were just one of four brothers to score for the same team.
  • TJ Malone and his brother Teddy who plays for Harvard was also on that list of eight brothers who scored last weekend.
