No. 17 Men's Lacrosse Welcomes No. 10 Penn on Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 17th-ranked Penn State men's lacrosse team welcomes in-state rival 10th-ranked Penn to Panzer Stadium on Saturday, March 4 at 3 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

• The Nittany Lions currently lead the series 27-15-1 as this will be the 44th meeting between both teams. Penn took to the last matchup that came on March 5, 2022 in a 10-9 victory for the Quakers.

SCOUTING PENN

  • Penn enters the match with a 1-1 overall record as they recently suffered their first loss of the season against nationally ranked Duke on February 25 by a score of 14-12.
  • Leading the way on the offensive front for the Quakers is Cam Rubin who leads the team with seven goals and nine points.
  • In net stands Emmet Carroll who has played and started in both games this season. He currently tallies a save percentage of .571 and GAA of 10.50.

TRAYNOR ON THE ATTACK

  • Sophomore Matt Traynor had a fantastic game against nationally ranked Yale on February 25. He scored five goals for the second time this season as well as registered one assist.
  • He sits tied for sixth in the nation in goals scored with 13 this season and has 16 points on the year.

MALONE BACK ON TRACK

  • Graduate student TJ Malone tallied his 13th career hat-trick in the Nittany Lions 13-11 victory over Yale.
  • Malone currently leads the team in points with 20 and 12 goals.
  • After missing last season due to injury, Malone is off to a hot start as he sits second in the Big Ten in goals and tied for first in the Big Ten in points.

BACK IN THE RANKINGS

  • For the first time since the beginning of the 2022 season, Penn State was nationally ranked in the most recent Inside Lacrosse and USILA Polls.
  • The Nittany Lions were slotted 17th in the nation in both polls.
  • Penn State hasn't been ranked that high since the 2021 season.

TAMBRONI NEARING 100

  • Penn State men's lacrosse head coach Jeff Tambroni currently sits at 99 wins as a head coach at Penn State.
  • He is one win shy from 100 at Penn State which would make him just the second Penn State men's lacrosse head coach to surpass that mark.
  • Previous head coach Glenn Thiel is the only other Nittany Lion lacrosse coach to surpass 100 wins at Penn State.
