Florida Relays On Deck This Weekend for Track & Field

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track & field team will travel to Florida once again, this time taking a trip to Gainesville for the Florida Relays on March 31-April 1.
 
The Florida Relays is one of the premiere track & field events in the nation, with the first meet being held back in 1939. Last season, the Nittany Lions set three top-ten program marks at the historic meet.

THE COMPETITION
 
The Nittany Lions are set to travel 20 members of their squad down to Florida to compete across the two-day meet. Penn State's men's 800-meter squad, which finished the indoor season ranked second in the country, has entered five athletes in the event this weekend. The women's 800-meter run will also feature four Nittany Lions.
 
Penn State events:

  • Friday Track: M/W 1,500m, M 4x400m
  • Friday Field: M Hammer, M Javelin
  • Saturday Track: M/W 800m, M 400m
  • Saturday Field: M/W Discus, W Shot Put, W High Jump

 
NITTANY LIONS IN THE RANKINGS
 
Penn State has 33 top-ten marks in the Big Ten heading into competition this weekend, five of which also are inside the top-25 in all of Division I. Mallory Kauffman (shot put), Cecelia Bacon (high jump), Faith DeMars (5K), Lucciano Pizarro (shot put), and Tyler Merkley (hammer throw) all posess top-25 NCAA marks in their respective events.
 
This weekend, Kauffman, Bacon, and Merkley will all compete this weekend, looking to improve on their impressive marks.
