Penn State Kicked Off Spring Against Tough Navy Side

University Park February 26, 2023

Penn State hosted Navy on Sunday Afternoon February 26th in Holuba hall to open the developmental 15s season.  Navy scored first with a patient pick and go attack 5m from the try line in the opening 10minutes of the game. The Nittany lion's, Merrin McSorley (Jr. Flanker) answered back with an excellent run off a beautifully executed lineout inside the 22.  Madeline Sayegh (Sr. Center) converted the try putting the team up 7-5.

Darby Miller (Jr. Center) would dot down the teams next try after an interception from Sayegh.  Sayegh's interception was well supported by her teammates who kept the ball alive allowing Miller's work rate in support to finish in the corner. Sayegh converted again Penn State Led 14-5 heading into half time.

The teams second half was riddled with penalties and lack of discipline that allowed Navy to kick and pick and go their way down the field. Navy scored two unanswered tries to take the lead 14-17 before Amber Bigler (Soph Hooker) scored off a pass from Mikayla Reed (Sr. 2nd Row).  Miller successfully converted the try and the Nittany Lions retook the lead 21-17. Gabbi Hoffman (Jr. Wing) with great footwork and speed quickly followed with a try of her own and the last try for the team.  That try went unconverted but an earlier penalty kick by Sayegh would round out the score at 29 points. Navy scored an unconverted try in the corner and Penn State's lack of discipline sealed the game for Navy with a late penalty try evening the score 29-29.
