MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Penn State diving competes at the NCAA Zone A Championship hosted by West Virginia Monday through Wednesday at Mylan Park.
Coverage:
The three-day meet starts Monday at noon with finals beginning 10 minutes after preliminary dives finish. A championship stream and live stats can be accessed via YouTube and DiveMeets.com.
The Meet:
Five zones divide the US into NCAA Championship qualification meets. Unlike swimmers, whose qualification is time-based, divers earn spots at the national championship by competing at their respective regional event.
Women who finish within the top-five of the 1 Meter and the top-six of the 3 Meter or Platform snag a spot at NCAAs. While the top-six and five of the men's 1-Meter, 3 Meter or Platform will travel to Minneapolis.
The Nittany Lions:
Five Nittany Lions represent Penn State.
Graduate student Daphne Wils and senior captain Wei Wei lead the women's team with record-setting performances in each of diving's events. Wils broke both the 1 Meter (330.90) and 3 Meter (356.55) records against Army while Wei took the Platform's (240.80) against Brown and Bowling Green.
Wils enters the meet after a pair of successful A Final appearances at the B1G Championships in February, placing fourth in the 1 Meter (311.45) and seventh in the 3 Meter (317.25).
The men's squad travels to West Virginia with two B1G Championship point-scorers – senior Kevin Sullivan and freshman Hayden Elliott.
Sullivan took 13th and 16th in the 1 Meter (324.25) and 3 Meter (283.35) while Elliott captured points in the 1-Meter (254.15), 3 Meter (278.70) and Platform (260.35) dives during conference prelims.
