MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Penn State Diving took to the tower on Wednesday for the final day of NCAA Diving Zones at Mylan Park.
"Wei just missed finals but had a solid day for her last competition," says Penn State head diving coach Jeff DiNicola. "Hayden was steady again and made top 12 on all three disciplines. Nice start for his freshman year!"
Senior captain Wei Wei opened up the platform events to represent the Nittany Lions women's squad, earning 196.3 and a 19th place finish during the preliminary events. In the fourth round during prelims, Wei landed a 46.8 off the 5-meter platform with a forward 2 ½ somersault pike dive.
Following the women's events, freshman Hayden Elliott represented the men's squad and qualified for the final rounds, scoring 273.10 and a 15th place finish at the conclusion of the preliminary events.
Onto the final rounds of the NCAA Diving Zones Championship, Elliott opened up in the first round with a forward 3 ½ somersault tuck off the 7-meter dive for 53.2 points added onto the board. At the conclusion of events, Elliott finished up with 571.65 points for the Nittany Lions and landed an 11th place finish.
