No. 5 Men's Lacrosse Rallies to 11-9 Victory Over No. 15/16 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The fifth-ranked Penn State men's lacrosse team rallied to an 11-9 victory over 15th-ranked Michigan on Sunday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Michigan opened the first quarter with a pair of goals with 12:38 and 12:18 remaining in the quarter to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Penn State scored its first goal of the game with 7:19 remaining in the first quarter off the stick of Jack Traynor to cut the Michigan lead to 2-1.
  • Michigan responded with 6:34 left in the quarter to regain a two-goal lead before Ethan Long cut the Wolverine lead back to one with 1:45 remaining.
  • Michigan had the last word in the opening quarter as they scored with four seconds left to take a 4-2 lead after one.
  • Kevin Winkoff opened the scoring in the second quarter for Penn State with 10:06 left in the half to cut the Michigan lead to 4-3.
  • Following a Michigan goal, Long tallied his second goal of the game with 5:07 remaining in the second quarter to reduce the Michigan lead to 5-4.
  • Michigan closed the half with a goal from Bryce Clay to give Michigan a 6-4 lead after two quarters.
  • The Wolverines opened the third quarter with a pair of goals to take an 8-4 lead with 9:49 remaining.
  • Penn State answered with two goals of their own off the sticks of Matt and Jack Traynor to cut the Michigan lead to 8-6 with 5:50 remaining in the quarter.
  • Michigan scored one more goal to close out the third quarter to give Michigan a 9-6 lead heading into the final quarter.
  • Penn State scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter with four coming from Jack Traynor to secure the 11-9 victory.

GOALTENDING

  • Sophomore goalie Jack Fracyon picked up his eighth victory of the season as he recorded 17 saves on 26 shots taken.

  • Jack Traynor scored a career-high six goals.
  • TJ Malone currently has 96 career goals.
  • Penn State is now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play.
