Luensmann Earns Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball junior Travis Luensmann was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Luensmann threw four shutout innings in Penn State's 7-2 win over Indiana on Saturday.
 
Luensmann entered the game in relief to begin the sixth inning and pitched the final four innings to help close out the victory. The Altoona native gave up just two hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 10.
 
The junior struck out three batters in the sixth inning, three in the seventh inning, two in the eighth inning and one in the ninth inning.
 
Luensmann protected a 4-2 lead in the sixth and was helped as the Nittany Lions plated three runs in the seventh. He finished the game to pick up his first save of the season.
 
On the year, Luensmann is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 32.1 innings. He is holding opponents to a .188 average while owning 36 strikeouts.
 
Luensmann earned his first career Big Ten weekly award and is Penn State's first Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honoree since Dante Biasi on April 8, 2019.
 
The Nittany Lions, led by head coach Rob Cooper, are 14-10 overall this season after wins over Indiana (7-2) and Pitt (16-8) last week.
 
Penn State continues its home stand against Bucknell on Tuesday, April 4. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with a broadcast on B1G+. Every Tuesday home game is Dollar Dog Night ($1 hot dogs).
 
The Nittany Lions host Delaware State next weekend, beginning on Thursday, April 6.
