UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's basketball head coach Mike Rhoades announced the addition of graduate transfer RayQuawndis Mitchell to the Nittany Lion program Wednesday. Mitchell comes to Penn State with one season of eligibility remaining.

Mitchell spent the 2022-23 season at Kansas City, leading the Roos with 17.3 points per game in addition to his 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. He earned second-team All-Summit League honors and a spot on the Summit League All-Newcomer Team while tallying 29 double-digit scoring efforts and nine 20-plus point performances. The Blaine, Minn. native ranked in the top 10 in the Summit League in free throws made (2nd), 3-pointers made per game (4th), minutes per game (5th), points per game (5th), FT% (7th) and FG% (8th) and was the only member of the Kansas City team to start all 32 games of the season.
Mitchell played the 2020-21 season at UIC, averaging 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. The guard tallied seven double-digit scoring efforts in 16 games for the Flames. He hit a game-winning shot in a win over Northern Illinois to highlight a Horizon League Player of the Week performance.
Mitchell spent the 2019-20 season at Otero Junior College where he averaged 15.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting over 40 percent from both the field and 3-point range and excelling at the free throw line, connecting at an 88.1% clip. He attended the University of Idaho as a freshman where he appeared in 31 games while making 10 starts. At Idaho, Mitchell scored in double figures on three different occasions, including a season-high 15 points against Montana State and 12 points in a win over Sacramento State.
Mitchell attended Blaine High School in Blaine, Minnesota where he averaged 22.1 points, 10 rebounds and nearly seven assists per game as a senior to earn All-Conference honors.
