DeMars’ 5K Finish Caps off NCAA Championship Competition for Track & Field

AUSTIN, Texas – Penn State track & field finished strong on the final day of competition at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas. The women's team concluded its season as the fourth-ranked Big Ten squad in team points at the 2023 championship meet.

"Great effort from Faith [DeMars] in the 5k tonight to wrap up competition for Penn State women's track & field," said head coach John Gondak. "We leave Austin scoring points on both sides for the first time since 2018, and we are excited for what the future holds for the program."

Faith DeMars, in her first NCAA Championship outing, finished her 5K in 16:09.61. The Big Ten 5K Champion finished 17th in all of Division I, a heartbreaking one spot out of All-America recognition. With her performance in Austin, DeMars concludes her 2023 season in which she ran the No. 2 5K mark in Penn State history.

Penn State's women's squad finished its week with the fourth-highest point total in the Big Ten, thanks to Mallory Kauffman's sixth-place outing in the shot put. The Nittany Lions also finished fourth on the men's side, marking the first time since the 2018 season in which both groups earned points in the same championship meet.
