Burkhart Earns Academic All-America Nod

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State sophomore Collin Burkhart was named to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team, the organization announced Thursday.

Burkhart collects his first CSC Academic All-America honor following an excellent sophomore campaign in the classroom, where he accumulated a 3.8 GPA in his business administration pre-major.

His outdoor season for the Nittany Lions was one for the record books. Burkhart set the No. 4 mark all-time at Penn State in the hammer throw (214-8, 65.43m) and the No. 10 all-time mark in the javelin throw (230-5, 70.23). He is the only athlete currently on both lists.

The sophomore qualified for the NCAA East Prelims in both the hammer and javelin throw events, finishing 19th in the region in the hammer and 25th in the javelin. Before his NCAA appearance, Burkhart finished fifth place in the hammer throw at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, combining that with a seventh-place effort in the javelin throw in the same day of competition.
