UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State head baseball coach Mike Gambino has officially announced three members of his coaching staff. Will Jauss, Scott Loiseau and Nick Puccio will join Gambino in Happy Valley.
Loiseau will serve as associate head coach, while Jauss and Puccio will be assistant coaches. Jake Stone has been retained on staff and recently completed his fourth season as director of operations and player development.
Scott Loiseau – Associate Head Coach
Loiseau has served as head coach at Southern New Hampshire University since 2016 and was head coach at SNHU from 2008-2014, separated by one year as recruiting coordinator at Oklahoma in 2015.
The six-time Northeast-10 Coach of the Year has a 480-209-2 career record, including 423-136 since 2012, in 16 years as a head coach. His teams were 192-48 in NE10 play. Loiseau's 480 wins are the most in program history. His .696 winning percentage ranked eighth among active Division II coaches.
Loiseau has led SNHU to five Division II College World Series appearances (including three-straight), eight East Regional finals (including seven-straight) and 11 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. At SNHU, Loiseau has coached 20 All-Americans and 118 All-Conference players.
In addition to six Northeast-10 Coach of the Year awards, Loiseau has been named NCBWA East Region Coach of the Year four times, ABCA East Region Coach of the Year five times and NEIBA East Region Coach of the Year six times.
Loiseau has coached 12 MLB Draft selections, including four Top-20 round picks, and two undrafted free agents.
In 2023, Loiseau led the Penmen to a 44-13 record, including 23-1 in Northeast-10 play, an East Regional title, Super Regional title and a College World Series appearance. SNHU won two games in the College World Series.
Among Division II teams, SNHU ranked second in ERA (3.37), third in WHIP (1.25), fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.81) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.83), sixth in runs per game (9.3), seventh in total runs (529), eighth in steals (163) and walks (312) and 10th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.6).
Before arriving at SNHU, Loiseau spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce University and one season as the top assistant at Holy Cross. He spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach with the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
A 2002 graduate of Franklin Pierce, Loiseau played professionally for two seasons with the Can-Am League's Worcester Tornadoes.
Loiseau has a wife, Haley, and daughters, Lily, Summer, Mila and Blake.
Will Jauss – Assistant Coach
Jauss has served as director of pitching technology at Boston College for the last two seasons.
At Boston College, Jauss operated, analyzed and implemented Trackman and Rapsodo data. He developed scouting reports and implemented infield and outfield shifts. During games, Jauss worked as the bullpen coach.
In 2023, BC's pitching staff ranked 26th in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.54) and 26th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.58). Nine BC pitchers made at least 16 appearances and seven pitchers had at least 34 strikeouts.
In 2022, Boston College had three pitchers selected in the MLB Draft, including Mason Pelio (12th round, Cincinnati Reds), Joey Mancini (15th round, Houston Astros) and Max Gieg (18th round, Los Angeles Angels). Thirteen pitchers made at least 13 appearances and six pitchers struck out at least 30 batters.
Prior to Boston College, Jauss was an assistant coach at Limestone University, serving as pitching coach for two seasons. As pitching coach, he operated, analyzed and implemented Trackman and Flightscope data.
Jauss pitched four seasons at New York University, making 13 appearances as a senior and helping the Violets to a 28-12 record as a junior.
Jauss served as assistant pitching coach for the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2018.
Will is the son of Dave Jauss, who has worked in professional baseball for over 35 years. Jauss is currently a senior advisor in the Washington Nationals' player development system. He has served as bench coach for the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Nick Puccio – Assistant Coach
Puccio has served as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Northeastern since the 2019 season.
Puccio helped Northeastern to three-straight seasons of 30+ wins, including 44 in 2023. The Huskies played in NCAA Regionals in 2021 and 2023, won CAA Titles in 2021 and 2023 and reached the CAA Championship Game in 2022. In 2023, Northeastern won games against Duke, UConn and Maryland.
The Huskies led the CAA in hits (614), home runs (106), home runs per game (1.77), on-base percentage (.395), runs (459), runs per game (7.6), slugging percentage (.510), stolen bases (133), stolen bases per game (2.22), ERA (3.75), hits allowed per nine innings (8.46), shutouts (7), WHIP (.733) and fielding percentage (.977).
Northeastern ranked third in the country in ERA, sixth in shutouts, seventh in walks allowed per nine innings (3.14), eighth in stolen bases, ninth in stolen bases per game and WHIP, 20th in home runs per game, 21st in home runs and 27th in slugging percentage and strikeout-to-walk ratio.
During Puccio's time at Northeastern, the Huskies had 21 All-CAA selections, 14 All-New England players, one CAA Player of the Year and three All-Americans. Northeastern had 10 players drafted or signed by MLB teams, including eight Top-20 round picks.
As recruiting coordinator, Puccio brought in three Top 100 classes, including the 53rd-ranked class in 2021.
Prior to Northeastern, Puccio served as head coach at Nichols College in Massachusetts during the 2014-18 seasons. He served two seasons as an assistant coach at Wheaton College and one year as an assistant coach at Southeastern Iowa Community College.
