UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's lacrosse program welcomed Andy Meyers to serve as the program's newest Assistant Coach as announced on Monday afternoon.
"Our staff is thrilled to welcome Andy to our staff" stated head coach Jeff Tambroni. "He will bring great energy, and a tremendous work ethic from a winning culture."
Meyers arrives in Happy Valley following a two-year stint as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse program. While working with the Captains, he led several different units as the Defensive Coordinator, Faceoff Unit Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator while helping the team set a new program record for wins in each of the last two seasons including 19 wins in 2023 along with an appearance in the DIII NCAA Tournament Final Four.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the men's lacrosse staff here at Penn State!" said Meyers. "First, I would like to thank Coach Tambroni for believing in me and allowing me to become a small part of the great program he has built. Working with and learning from Coach Tambroni, Coach Haus, Coach Bucci and all of the support staff on a daily basis is a dream come true for me."
While coaching at Christopher Newport, Meyers served as the Boy's Lacrosse Coach at True Lacrosse in Chicago, Ill. where he coached both True Ohio and True National teams at the high school level during the summer and fall which he started in 2019.
Meyers gained experience coaching at a variety of levels, including two seasons at Otterbein University. With the Cardinals, he worked as the defensive coordinator while assisting in nearly every facet of the program. Overall, Otterbein posted a 15-6 record during his stint, including an 11-4 campaign in 2021.
"I am looking forward to building meaningful relationships with all of the Penn State men's lacrosse student-athletes and helping them both on and off the field while upholding the values of a relentless work ethic, compassion and competitiveness" Meyers added.
In addition to his time with the Cardinals, Meyers also gained extensive experience working at the high school and club levels. Among his stops, he served as the head lacrosse coach for the Midwest Top Gun Lacrosse Club and was the associate head coach at Blue Valley West High School. He also spent time as a coach with True Lacrosse in Columbus, Ohio.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Meyers was a decorated standout lacrosse player at Carthage College where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2018. From 2016-18, he made his presence felt as a faceoff specialist and defensive midfielder while helping the program claim a pair of CCIW championships.
On an individual level, he set a new school record with a .720 faceoff percentage and was celebrated as the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. Eventually, he was a two-time All-League selection and graduated with a .660 career faceoff percentage, which marked the second highest in program history.
Equally successful in the classroom, Meyers graduated from Carthage with a degree in history. For his efforts, he was honored with the prestigious CCIW Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference Award as the school's top male student-athlete in 2017.
Along with his time at Carthage, Meyers has also competed on the international circuit as a member of the Ireland National Men's Lacrosse Team which featured an appearance at the World Lacrosse Championships in 2023.
In May of 2021 Meyers earned his Master of Science degree in Allied Health from Otterbein.
