Women's Hockey Names Gough Captain for 2023-24 Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team and head coach Jeff Kampersal have selected graduate student Julie Gough to serve as the team's captain for the 2023-24 season.

Entering her fifth season in Hockey Valley, Gough has been one of the most productive forwards on the team as a season ago she scored a career-high 14 goals including the game-winning goal in the CHA Tournament Championship game which sent Penn State to its first NCAA tournament. She was named to the All-Tournament team and Tournament MVP.

In her career, Gough has racked 38 goals and 24 assists in 125 games played over four years. She sits fifth all-time in program history in goals scored and fourth in power-play goals with 10. The Ontario native also ranks sixth in total plus/minus at a +38 rating.

Off the ice, Gough is a four-time CHA All-Academic team honoree and is a key leader in addressing awareness of mental health of student-athletes as she led the Bench Out the Stigma event on campus this summer and traveled with student-athletes from across the Big Ten at the  B1G Life Series: Selma to Montgomery initiative led by the Big Ten Equality Coalition which highlighted the civil rights movement in Alabama.
