UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's basketball head coach Carolyn Kieger has named Adrienne Motley to the position of Director of Player Development ahead of the 2023-24 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Adrienne to our Penn State family." said Kieger. "Her exceptional experience on the court and deep understanding of the game will make an invaluable addition to our staff. I know she will inspire and guide our players to achieve their utmost potential on and off the court. I am elated to be back working alongside Adrienne and can't wait to see her shine here in Happy Valley!"
Motley arrives at Penn State after an extensive playing career. She played collegiately competing at the University of Miami (Fla.), beginning play while Kieger was one the Miami staff as an assistant coach, before going on to play professionally in Europe.
"I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to learn from Coach Kieger again." said Motley. "Coach Kieger's development and mentorship was integral in my success as a player, and I appreciate her giving me the chance to grow with this staff and team."
Among her stops on the pro circuit were Lulea Basket (Sweden), Celta Zorka Vigo (Spain), AO Eleftheria Moshatou (Greece), MBK Ruzomberok (Slovakia) and most recently, Rapid Bucharest (Romania). Motley's honors overseas included a 2023 Romanian League Guard of the Year and first team selection, a 2022 Slovakian Extraliga second team honor and a 2019 Spanish Liga Femenina first team award.
While in Coral Gables, Motley was a four-year starter for the Hurricanes, compiling a total of 1,844 points in 129 contests. She earned honorable mention All-America honors as well as Regional Finalist accolades from the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association, four consecutive placements on All-ACC teams, including two first team nods, and a Senior CLASS Award in her final collegiate campaign. Success at the NCAA level parlayed into the 32nd selection of the 2017 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever.
Motley also gained leadership and community skills through involvement in several organizations, notably working as an assistant coach for the Boo Williams Summer League Girls 16U Elite Team and the Minnesota Fury Under Armour Elite Team.
