Nittany Lions Take Down Bahamas Pirates 113-65 in Foreign Tour Opener

NASSAU, Bahamas – The Penn State men's basketball team used a balanced team effort to cruise to a 113-65 win over the Bahamas Pirates in the opening game of Penn State's Bahamas Foreign Tour Tuesday night as part of the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League.
 
Five Nittany Lions finished in double figures while all 13 players that saw the floor scored in the balanced team attack. Penn State had 26 assists on 40 made field goals in the efficient offensive performance, while the Nittany Lion defense forced 33 Pirates' turnovers.
 
"Good first game," said Peter and Ann Tombros Endowed Head Coach Mike Rhoades. "A lot of guys contributed and we played a lot of different rotations and lineups. Great to see we had 26 assists, that means we're playing the right way."

Nick Kern Jr. led the way for the Nittany Lions with 17 points on an 8-for-9 clip from the field and added seven rebounds. D'Marco Dunn followed with 16 points behind three made 3-pointers. Kanye Clary finished with 13 points, a team-high seven assists and five rebounds. Puff Johnson chipped in 13 points and seven boards, while Jameel Brown also added 13 points.
 
Zach Hicks led the Nittany Lions with 12 rebounds, while Demetrius Lilley and Leo O'Boyle each pulled in eight boards.
 
The Nittany Lions scored 60 of their 113 points in the paint. The Penn State defense held the Bahamas to a 31.8 percent (27-85) mark from the field and 16.7 percent (4-24) clip from 3-point range. Penn State turned the ball over just 13 times compared to the Pirates' 33 turnovers.


The Nittany Lions play their second and final exhibition game as part of the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when Penn State faces University of Victoria (Canada). Live video will be available to stream via FloHoops ($).
