UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State men's soccer is set to host Maryland on Tuesday, Sept. 19 for the 11thannual Mack Brady Match and Big Ten home opener. The nationally televised game will kick off at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
 
The Nittany Lions look for their seventh consecutive Mack Brady Match win on Tuesday evening while honoring the life and legacy of Mack Brady. The Brady family will be honored at halftime of the game.

MACK BRADY 

  • Tuesday's match marks the 11th annual Mack Brady Match, traditionally held on the team's Big Ten home opener.
  • The Nittany Lions help celebrate the life, legacy, and love for soccer, specifically goalkeeping, of one of their biggest fans, Mack Brady.
  • At age eight, Brady passed away on Dec. 31, 2012, following an unexpected blood infection. To honor his life and love for soccer, Mack's parents, Christian and Elizabeth, created the "Mack Brady Memorial Soccer Fund." The fund is an endowment for Penn State goalkeepers to assist with recruiting, equipment and other needs. 
  • Mr. and Mrs. Brady will be honored on the field at halftime.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State opened Big Ten competition with a 3-0 victory over Ohio State on Friday, Sept. 15 in Columbus.
  • With the win, the Nittany Lions moved to a 19-12-2 record in conference openers with six consecutive wins. 
  • Butts owns all three Penn State goals, with all being unassisted and two coming off rebounds. 
  • His hat trick was the first of a Penn State player since Peter Mangione scored three goals against Villanova in 2021.
  • Shakes earned his second shutout of the season and 18th of his career. 

NITTANY LIONS IN THE RANKS

  • Penn State was the only team in the Big Ten to earn a win on opening weekend of conference play.
  • Butts' hat trick is the second in the conference this season and first in a Big Ten match. 
  • Shakes sits at the top of the Big Ten in saves with 27.
  • Butts is one of 23 players across the country to have scored a hat trick so far this season. 

SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS

  • Maryland tied Wisconsin in its Big Ten opener on Thursday, Sept. 14. The final score was 2-2.
  • The Terrapins are 1-2-2 with only one win over UNCG earlier this season.
  • In 2022, Maryland won the Big Ten regular season title and feel to Indiana in the semifinals. The Terrapins made a run in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Cornell in the second round.
  • Five different Maryland players are responsible for the team's five goals this season. Kimani Stewart-Baynes leads the team in points with five using one goal and three assists. 

PENN STATE-MARYLAND HISTORY 

  • The all-time series between the long-time rivals is 20-25-7 with the first meeting dating back to 1948. 
  • The most recent match-up ended in a six-goal draw in 2022 with three goals by each team.
  • Prior to 2022, the two matches in 2021 resulted in overtime thrillers with one 2-2 finish and one 3-2 Nittany Lions victory.
  • Penn State is 12-9-2 in home games against Maryland.

Parking Information
Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access.

For men's soccer games, fans are asked to park in the Jordan East, Stadium West or Porter North lots. Fans without a permit are encouraged to prepay for event parking at a discounted rate of $5.50 through ParkMobile - https://psu.parkmobile.io/. Prepayment is available through 11:59 p.m. the day prior to each event. Event day parking will be $10 per vehicle and is cash only/can be purchased on the ParkMobile app. The East Deck is also available for most events for $1 per hour.
