BOSTON - The No. 11/11 Penn State women's ice hockey team dropped its season opener to No. 5/5 Northeastern 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With less than five minutes into the first period, the Huskies jumped onto the scoreboard first off a power-play goal by Peyton Compton with 15:27 remaining in the period.
- Penn State out-shot the Huskies 12-5 in the second period but was unable to find the back of the net.
- The Nittany Lions fired 10 more shots on net in the final frame but were unsuccessful in tying the game up at 1-1.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goalie Josie Bothun stopped 22 shots on 23 attempted as she drops to 0-1 on the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State out-shot the Huskies 27-23.
- Tessa Janecke and Brianna Brooks led all Nittany Lions in shots with five each.
- This is the first time Penn State has been shutout since Nov. 18, 2022, when the Nittany Lions fell to sixth-ranked Yale 3-0.
