No. 25 Men’s Soccer Hosts Howard in Midweek Matchup

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- No. 25 Penn State men's soccer returns to Jeffrey Field on Wednesday, Sept. 27 to host Howard in a midweek, non-conference contest. Kick off in Happy Valley is set for 7 p.m.
 
The Nittany Lions (5-1-2 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) look to extend a three-game win streak. 
 
Kris Shakes was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, claiming three out of four weekly nods this season so far. Peter Mangione earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week to sweep the conference awards for the Nittany Lions.

  • Penn State pulled of a 2-0 gutsy road win at UNCG on Saturday while playing down a man for 80 minutes of the game after Femi Awodesu was issued a red card in the 10th minute.
  • Alex Stevenson scored the first goal of the game with a header off a set piece assist from Matthew Henderson. 
  • The Nittany Lions' second goal came off the foot of Quentin Flowers with his first collegiate goal. Mangione fed the ball to Flowers in the box and in one touch fashion he sent it to the top corner of the net. 
  • Kris Shakes earned his second consecutive shutout in goal and third of the season.

  • Kris Shakes ranks sixth in the nation in save percentage (.872) and is tied for ninth in shutouts (4). He also leads the B1G in save percentage and ranks second in shutouts.
  • Penn State sits atop the Big Ten standings and is the only team to own two conference victories.
  • Peter Mangione and Liam Butts are tied for third in the Big Ten in goals with three each.
  • Mangione's three game-winning goals place him tied for first in the conference.

  • The most recent time the teams faced off was in 1989 in the NCAA Championship, the Bison claimed a 2-1 overtime victory.

Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access.

For men's soccer games, fans are asked to park in the Jordan East, Stadium West or Porter North lots. Fans without a permit are encouraged to prepay for event parking at a discounted rate of $5.50 through ParkMobile - https://psu.parkmobile.io/. Prepayment is available through 11:59 p.m. the day prior to each event. Event day parking will be $10 per vehicle and is cash only/can be purchased on the ParkMobile app. The East Deck is also available for most events for $1 per hour.
