No. 11/10 Women's Ice Hockey Edged by UConn, 2-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -  The No. 11/10 Penn State women's ice hockey team dropped its home-opener to UConn 2-0 on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After two scoreless periods of action, UConn scored with 15:33 left in the third period coming off the stick of Riley Grimly to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than two minutes later with 13:52 remaining in the frame UConn's Kathryn Stockdale found the back of the net off the goalie rebound to secure the 2-0 victory. 

GOALTENDERS

  • Senior goalie Josie Bothun allowed just two goals on 27 shots attempted and dropped her record to 1-2 on the year.
  • UConn's goalie Tia Chan stopped all of Penn State's 33 shots to go to 1-0 on the year.

STATS AND NOTES

  • The Nittany Lions outshot the Huskies 33-27.
  • UConn now leads the series 4-0-2.
  • Sophomore Tessa Janecke continued her strong face-off play going 14-25 in the dot.
  • Attendance was 1,413 which is the seventh highest in program history.
