WEST POINT, N.Y.- Freshman Ian Raubal earns two, first-place finishes in the event finals at the West Point Open. He scored a 13.900 on parallel bars and a 13.900 on high bar as well, marking the highest scores of the night.
Raubal also finished third on rings with his score of 13.250.
Head coach Randy Jepson says "I am really proud of Ian Raubal this weekend. He has not competed this many times in a row in his career and he was stellar, coming out with two championships tonight," says Jepson.
Derek Schlagenhauf had a career night as well, notching a personal best on pommel horse in the individual event finals with a score of 14.050.
Junior Michael Artlip finished the night third on floor exercise (14.100) and earns himself a personal best score. He also finished fifth on pommel horse (13.500) and sixth on vault (13.750).
Junior captain Matt Cormier joined Artlip on the podium for floor exercise in second with a score of 14.200. Cormier placed fourth on vault with a 14.250 and sixth on high bar with a 12.300.
Will Fleck's score of 13.600 secures a third-place finish for the freshman on pommel horse.
Freshman Matt Underhill joins Raubal at the top with a fourth-place finish on rings with his 13.200 score.
Jepson says, "Today showed that we have some things to work on in terms of being sharper on the second day but it was a great experience for our guys."
