UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 9, 2023 – Penn State field hockey junior Anouk Knuvers has been named Big Ten Defense Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8, 2023. Knuvers anchored the Nittany Lion defense in Penn State's thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 7 Ohio State on Friday night.
Knuvers put on a defensive show on Friday night at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The junior back anchored a defense that withstood torrid Ohio State pressure early in the game, allowing Penn State to eventually grab the win with two second half goals. Knuvers had numerous blocks and steals in the game, including a key block on a late Ohio State penalty corner.
Penn State is now 6-5 overall, 2-1 in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions visit Michigan State Friday at 6 p.m. and Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m. this weekend as Big Ten play continues.
