UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men's soccer team will take on No. 12 Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 13 in the program's first ever 'wear black' match. Kickoff at Jeffrey Field is set for 7 p.m.
The Nittany Lions look to get back in the win column against Northwestern on Friday, October 13, after falling 2-1 to Indiana on Saturday, October 7. The Wildcats will be a tough test for the Nittany Lions as they sit atop the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 3-0-1.

PROMOTION
- Penn State men's soccer is hosting its first ever 'wear black', encouraging fans in attendance to wear black in support of the team. The Nittany Lions will be wearing their throwback black and pink kits for the second time this season after defeating Maryland in those uniforms on September 19.
- The first 150 fans in attendance at the game will receive a free Penn State men's soccer scarf.
LAST TIME OUT
- Penn State fell to Indiana in a 2-1 decision on Saturday, October 7.
- Indiana's Samuel Sarver opened the scoring in the 21st minute after a strong tackle in the midfield and a subsequent pass from Hugo Bacharach.
- Kris Shakes made a massive kick save on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute to keep the Hoosiers from extending their lead.
- Just seconds later, Peter Mangione fielded a Kris Shakes' punt and quickly got behind the Indiana keeper to score the equalizer before halftime.
- Hugo Bacharach and Samuel Sarver connected again on Sarver's second goal during the opening minutes of the second half to put the Hoosiers ahead.
- Penn State suffered their first loss in Big Ten play this season.

- Penn State is second in the Big Ten in points (50) and goals (14).
- Kris Shakes' 36 saves are good for second in the conference. He also places second in the Big Ten in shutouts (5) and save percentage (.818).
- Peter Mangione ranks second in the conference in goals with five and is tied for second in game-winning goals with three.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Northwestern is off to a hot start in 2023 with a record of 9-0-3 and sits atop the Big Ten standings with a 3-0-1 conference record.
- The Wildcats are ranked no. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
- Northwestern leads the Big Ten in goals (24) and assists (24). Their +15-goal differential also leads the conference.
- Justin Weiss paces the Wildcats' high-powered offense with six goals and seven assists. He leads the Big Ten in both categories.
- Adding to Weiss' production are midfielders Rom Brown and Collin McCamy. Brown has tallied four goals on the season. McCamy's four assists place him tied for second in the conference.
PENN STATE –NORTHWESTERN SERIES
- The Nittany Lions dominate the all-time series with a record of 28-8-5.
- The teams tied 2-2 in Evanston, Ill. a season ago.
- The last meeting in Happy Valley coincided with Penn State's last win in the series, a 2-1 victory during the 2021 season.

The Homecoming Parade will take place on Friday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. This will have an effect on the traffic pattern for those attending the Penn State men's soccer game. Fans attending Friday's men's soccer game at Jeffrey Field should travel on Park Avenue from I-99/Rt. 322 or Atherton Street to reach the Stadium West parking lot.
Due to Penn State's annual Homecoming Parade, the following roads will be closed Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade:
- Curtin Road (from Porter Road to Bigler Road)
- Bigler Road (from Curtin Road to Pollock Road)
- Pollock Road (from Bigler Road to Shortlidge Road)
- Shortlidge Road (from Pollock Road to College Avenue)
- College Avenue (from Shortlidge Road to Burrowes Road)
- Burrowes Road (from College Avenue to Curtin Road
Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access.
Spectators can park in Stadium West parking lot for Penn State men's soccer games. Visitors can prepay for parking at a rate of $5.50/game through ParkMobile. The day-of-event rate will be $10/game. Prepayment is required by 11:59pm the night before the event to receive a discounted rate ($5.50/game).
