PISCATAWAY, N.J.- The Penn State men's soccer team looks to continue momentum in another Big Ten match up at Rutgers on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Kick off in Piscataway is set for 6 p.m. in a nationally televised match on Big Ten Network.
 
The Nittany Lions head east to take on former Atlantic 10 now Big Ten opponent the Scarlet Knights in a midweek, televised contest.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State handed no. 12 Northwestern its first loss of the season with a 2-1 defeat on Friday, Oct. 13.
  • This was the Nittany Lions first top-25 win since Sept. 25, 2022, and first top-12 win since 2021.
  • The two captains of the program, Awodesu and Mangione led the team to victory with two second half goals. 
  • Awodesu found the game-tying goal in the 62nd minute off a rebound and Mangione buried the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute.

  • Kris Shakes ranks 16th in the nation in save percentage (.813) and is tied for fourth most shutouts (5). He also ranks second in the B1G in save percentage and ranks second in shutouts.
  • Penn State sits at second in the Big Ten standings and ranks second in goals scored and points with 20 of each.
  • Peter Mangione ranks second in the conference in goals with six and is tied for first in game-winning goals with four.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS

  • The reigning Big Ten Tournament Champions are having a tough start to their 2023 season with a record of 4-6-2 overall.
  • The Scarlet Knights have conference wins over Wisconsin and Maryland.
  • Jackson Temple leads the team in goals with five on the season, tied with Penn State's Mangione and ranks first in points with 12. 
  • Ciaran Dalton was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 3) after a career high 10 saves in Rutgers' 2-1 win over Maryland.
