UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams will hold the 2023 Garret Penn State Open this weekend, Oct. 21-22, in the White Building. Saturday will be dedicated to the women's events, with the men's events taking place on Sunday. Action will commence at 9 a.m. on both days.
Fencing foil for the women's side will be Ariel Ratsep, Arianna Proietti and Clarisse Tan. Freshmen Eden De La Cruz and Thea Fernandes will make their collegiate fencing debuts this weekend and Mikaela Yhip will make her official return after missing the 2022-23 season due to injury.
Women's epee will have Axelle Wasiak, Jaclyn Khrol and Kateryna Chorniy. Amelia Baker, Aurora Colter, Mia Novick and Ola Strzalkowski will compete in saber.
For the men's team, Arwen Borowiak and Aidan Johnson return to fence foil with freshmen Spencer Burke, Tit Nam Cheng, Alessio Fukuda and Yaroslav Muruhin all making their collegiate debuts.
Epee will have Mitchel Bekker, Peter Kambeseles, Zachary Suico, Devin Tafoya and Tingwei Xu and the saber squad will feature Neil Lilov, Carlos Fernando Chacon and Jeffrey Basalyga.
The men's fencing teams will compete against Ohio State and UNC Chapel Hill and the women's team will face Ohio State, UNC Chapel Hill, Temple and Northwestern.
