UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With Penn State's annual THON 5K Fun Run/Walk to be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, several traffic and parking restrictions will be in place, which will impact a number of Penn State Athletics events.
Fans are advised to park in Stadium West for both the field hockey (noon) and women's soccer (1 p.m.) games as the road closures will not allow for parking in other lots. Women's volleyball (1 p.m.) fans should park in the Nittany Deck and will likely not be impacted by closures, while fencing (8 a.m.) and men's soccer (4 p.m.) should not be impacted by the closures. Fencing spectators should access the HUB Parking Deck from Shortlidge Road only – avoiding Pollock Road from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Traffic Restrictions
To accommodate the THON 5K route, the following campus roadways will be closed from 11 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. Sunday (roads will reopen after final runner has cleared):
- Porter Road (from Curtin Road to Hastings Road)
- Hastings Road (from Porter Road to Bigler Road)
- Bigler Road (from Hastings Road to Pollock Road)
- Pollock Road (from Bigler Road to Burrowes Road)
- Curtin Road (from Burrowes Road to Porter Road)
General Parking
General event parking will be available in Stadium West and Jordan East. For those attending the field hockey game, those with prepaid ParkMobile permits from either Jordan East or Stadium West or permits issued by the Transportation Services department will be valid in the Yellow H lots at Wagner and Shields Buildings. Fans should plan on accessing these lots by 11 a.m. After 11 a.m., fans should park in Stadium West – noting access to Stadium West is available only from Park Avenue. After approximately 1 p.m., Curtin Road in front of Wagner and Shields will be reopened to normal traffic with only Curtin Road from University Drive to Porter Road remaining closed.
Parking is available two hours before each event. There is no charge with a valid Penn State Parking permit. All other parking must be purchased through ParkMobile for all events. Parking can be purchased in advance for $5.50 through the ParkMobile site or $10 day of the event.
All vehicles must be parked with the license plate facing the drive aisle located closest to the parking space so that payment can be verified by parking enforcement staff. A valid permit or payment is required in event parking areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Vehicles parked without a valid permit or payment may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense. Non-football event parking is managed by Penn State Transportation Services. For more information on parking for this event, please email parking@psu.edu or call 814-865-1436.
Safety Reminders for Pedestrians
All fans walking from parking areas are reminded to use the designated sidewalks and the cross walks at the intersections. Please avoid crossing mid-block due to the high traffic volume expected.
ADA Parking
ADA parking in Stadium West will be available at the southwest corner of Stadium West near the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road. This parking area is only accessible via Park Avenue. A valid state-issued ADA placard or license plate is required, along with a valid Penn State permit or parking purchased from ParkMobile.
