Phia Gladieux Named B1G Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State field hockey forward Sophia Gladieux has been named Big Ten Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 22, 2023. Her honor is the second of the season for Penn State and her first this year.

Gladieux scored both goals in Penn State's 2-1 win over No. 5 Iowa on Sunday afternoon in the home finale for the Nittany Lions. Gladieux's effort helped Penn State come back from a 1-0 deficit to earn the win and the weekend split in Big Ten action. Gladieux scored with just under 3:00 to play in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime. She then notched the game winner at the 10:33 mark of the third period, scoring unassisted to put Penn State up 2-1, a score that held to the end.

Gladieux now has 38 points off 18 goals and two assists. She moved her career numbers to 147 points off 69 goals and nine assists. Penn State went 1-1 on the weekend (dropping a 2-0 game to No. 1 Northwestern on Friday) and is now 8-7 overall, 3-4 in Big Ten action. The Nittany Lions are at Indiana next Friday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. in their next outing.
