Hannah Leads No. 13 Women's Volleyball Past Michigan, 3-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Camryn Hannah hit .395 with 20 kills to lead No. 13 Penn State Women's Volleyball to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) win over Michigan in a Big Ten match Friday night at the Crisler Center. The Nittany Lions upped their record to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference, while the Wolverines fell to 3-17, 1-10.
 
Hannah continued to excel against Big Ten opponents. She is now hitting .319 while averaging 3.25 kills/set and 0.73 blocks/set in 11 conference matches. Hannah reached double-digit kills in eight of those matches.
 
Jess Mruzik returned to her home state and came through with a double-double of 18 kills and 11 digs in the win. Taylor Trammell and Zoe Weatherington added seven and six kills, respectively.
 
Weatherington, who made her first start since a win over Temple on Sept. 8, led the defensive effort at the net with a team-high seven blocks. Allie Holland was in on six of the team's 11 blocks. The back row defense was led by libero Gillian Grimes with 13 digs, while Anjelina Starck contributed nine.
 
Penn State hit .275 compared to .206 for Michigan. Mac Podraza tallied 46 assists in addition to her eight digs.
 
Jacque Boney put together a big individual performance in a losing effort for Michigan, hitting .632 with 13 kills.
 
Set 1
Trammell had four kills and no errors on her five swings to lead Penn State to a 25-23 win in the opening set. Penn State trailed 20-15 before making a great comeback to get the early lead in the match. The comeback started with a 3-0 run that included a kill by Hannah, a block by Holland and Weatherington, and a kill by Mruzik that cut the deficit to two at 20-18. The Nittany Lions used another 3-0 run to tie the score at 21-all. Following a service error, they went on yet another 3-0 run to take a 24-22 lead. That run was fueled by a kill and block by Mruzik and a kill by Starck. The Wolverines shut down Penn State's first chance at set point, but Trammell followed with a kill off a set from Podraza.
 
Set 2
The second set win came easier as Penn State rolled to a 25-16 win behind three kills apiece from Weatherington and Mruzik. Holland added three blocks. The Nittany Lions scored the first point on a kill by Weatherington, went up 5-1 on another kill by Weatherington, and never trailed in the set.
 
Set 3
Penn State dropped the third set 25-20 despite Hannah tallying eight kills on .462 hitting and Weatherington totaling eight kills on .429 hitting. Michigan countered with .455 hitting as a team, including five kills on .556 hitting by Amalia Simmons. The Wolverines held a slim two-point lead at 19-17 before scoring six of the final nine points. The final point came on a kill by Simmons.
 
Set 4
Hannah hit .545 with six kills to help Penn State close out the match with a 25-20 win in set four. Weatherington chipped in with three blocks. The Nittany Lions trailed 14-10 before taking the lead with a 5-0 run that included a kill and a block by Weatherington. Penn State trailed 18-17 before going on another 5-0 run that put it up 22-18. Mruzik and Hannah led the charge during that run with two kills apiece. The final point of the match was eventually scored on a kill by Holland off a set from Podraza.
